AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.

AVID is a program designed to help students in the middle prepare for and succeed in colleges and universities. Students in the program commit themselves to improvement and preparation for college. AVID offers a rigorous program of instruction in academic “survival skills” and college level entry skills. The AVID program teaches the student how to study, read for content, take Cornell notes, and manage time. Students participate in collaborative study groups or tutorials led by tutors who use skillful questioning to bring students to a higher level of understanding.

The AVID program at Fort Pierce Central High School is led by Ms. Keri McArthur (keri.mcarthur@stlucieschools.org) and is also taught by Ms. Carli Terrell (carli.terrell@stlucieschools.org).
