PreK students learn in different ways

PreK students learn in different ways

For our theme, Growing and Changing, VPK have been busy learning about people, animals, flowers and fruits growing and changing.   We read books about growing up.  For an Art project, we made a “Beginning Sounds Garden,” for the letter Gg.

VPK gave an awesome performance for our Parent Program focusing on Getting Ready for Kindergarten.  The songs we performed for our parents/guardians were:   “Letters Sounds,” “Countdown to Blastoff,” “Vowel,” “Fish in the Sea,”  “Jack and Jill,” and “Goodbye,”

Also, we had a fun-filled day at LaPorte Farms with the animals.  Everyone enjoyed the pony and hay ride!

Dancing & Field Days

In P.E. at Garden City Early Learning Academy,  the students are learning line dances that will help them with unity, and synchronization in life.  The children are focusing on learning the 8 counts in parts so they will be able to put them all together and create their line dance.

In addition,  something to look forward to is field day!  Field day is scheduled for May 2nd and 3rd.  Remember to send your child with sneakers, bathing suit/towel, and/ or a change of clothes.   Thursday, May 2nd will be 1st and 2nd grades field day and Friday May 3rd will be the Pre-K and Kindergarteners.  The time of field day is 1:00-2:30.  Let’s get ready for some healthy fun!

Preparing for Kindergarten

The VPK classes are getting ready for their field trip to LaPorte Farms.  This field trip aligns with the last thematic unit, The City and The Country.  It will also allow real world experiences for farm animals and a farm setting.  In addition, all VPK students are getting ready for Kindergarten.  They are working on letter recognition and letter sounds, counting to 31 (or higher), and writing their first and last name.

Speech with Ms. Bollinger

Ms.  Bollinger’s students are working on a variety of skills; recently her kindergarten students mastered their letters and sounds of the alphabet and are now working on CVC words.  CVC words are Consonant, Vowel, Consonant words such as: cat, mat, bat.

Making “cents” in Mrs. Celano’s class

Mrs. Celano’s class is working on a unit about money.  To help us make “cents” of counting coins, let our bumblebees count your change when you are paying at a register or getting money back from a purchase.  This will help them to be confident coin counters!  For the next few weeks, we will be going to great lengths to learn about measuring!

Read Across America – Dr. Seuss Day

Garden City had over 40 guest readers to help us celebrate “Read Across America”.  Some classes had up to 3 readers at once!  The volunteers readers came from various areas of the community: IRSC Women’s Basketball Team, IRSC Women’s Volleyball Team,  IRSC Students, IRSC Faculty, Supervisors of  Elections Office, City Manager, County Commisioner, Children’s Service Council, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Fort Pierce Mayor, and St. Lucie County Fire Department.   Thank you to everyone for supporting our school and making a difference in the lives of our children.
