Students at LWPE are offered the opportunity to learn beyond the basics.  Resource classes include Art, Technology, Media, Physical Education, Reading Technology, and Music giving the students a well-balanced learning experience.

We are a Reading First school.  LWPE is one of the schools in St. Lucie County that was award a Reading First Grant.  This grant provides additional funds for materials and professional development for teachers in grades K-3.

LWPE is committed to excellence in reading.  Our Reading Coaches help guide teachers in developing and implementing researched-based strategies that promote student learning.

We are a high-tech school.  Each classroom is equipped with state-of-the-Art technology for the teachers and students.  Each classroom contains a CAV system which includes a wireless DLP projector, surround-sound audio, integrated DVD/VCR, wireless microphones and a mobile laptop cart per grade with 16 laptops for students to use in the classroom.

In addition, LWPE offers students state-of-the-art learning with two computers labs and 5 or more networked computers per classroom.  This incorporation of technology allows our students to learn advance skills that prepare them for middle school and beyond.

The Media lab is designed to help students of all ages increase their reading skills.  The lab consists of state-of-the-art programs, such as, Earobics, Destination Reading, Destination Math, and FCAT Explorer .  All of these programs help students work at a self-paced learning that increases reading fluency and comprehension.

We are a SACS CASI Accredited School (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools’ Council on Accreditation and School Improvement.

SACS CASI provides nationally recognized accreditation, the purpose of which is continuous school improvement focused on increasing student performance. To earn accreditation, schools must meet SACS CASI’s high standards, be evaluated by a team of professionals from outside the school, and implement a continuous process of school improvement. Accreditation is granted on a five-year term.

SACS CASI accreditation is recognized across state lines, which not only eases the transfer process as students move from school to school but also assures parents that the school is meeting nationally accepted standards for quality and successful professional practices.

A 12-member SACS CASI Quality Assurance Review Team of experienced educators from outside the district and state recommended the school district for the prestigious distinction following a three-day visit that included interviews with central office staff, visits to 12 schools, and conversation with over 300 teachers, parents, staff, community members, and school board members.

We are a Positive Behavior Support Model School. This is an elite designation given to schools that implement PBS with the highest fidelity and have the best results in student achievement and student behavior management in the state of Florida.
