ATTENDANCE
At Northport, attendance and promptness is strongly encouraged. Absences or tardiness results in missing essential instruction and could result in missing important class work. Students who arrive late to school, must report to the attendance office for proper admission to class. If a student is absent from school, the parents are requested to call attendance at 772-340-4700. Listen to the prompt for the Attendance Office. Excessive tardies/absences will be reported to a county social worker for further follow up.

RESPONSE TO INTERVENTION

Response to Intervention (RtI) is a process that provides intervention and educational support to all students at increasing levels of intensity based on their individual needs.

For more information on RtI, click here.

CODE OF CONDUCT
Students who attend Northport will receive a copy of our county Code of Conduct. This booklet outlines in detail what The St. Lucie County School Board expects of our students. This booklet also outlines the consequences of violating this code.

WITHDRAWAL FROM SCHOOL
Parents are required to stop into the Guidance Office and advise the staff that the student is withdrawing. The Clerk will initiate the paperwork to obtain withdrawal grades. This includes having the teachers sign off on the form, informing parents of any missing books, musical instruments, lunch fees, etc. Students and parents are responsible for returning books etc and taking care of fines before the student leaves Northport.

DRESS CODE
Northport does not require uniforms; however, there is a specific dress code. Northport students are required to wear collared shirts, tucked in with a belt every day. Any color shirt is acceptable, however, nothing sexually explicit, gang related, etc. will be tolerated. The exception to the collared shirt is the Northport school shirt which is worn on Fridays
only. This also must be worn tucked in with a belt. Rule of thumb is “if they have belt loops, wear a belt.” This is for girls as well as boys. The complete dress code can be obtained here.

PLANNER
Students receive a school planner upon enrolling at Northport. This handbook has a complete outline of the rules/regulations to be followed at Northport. This booklet is vital to the student as it contains pages for daily assignments, information for parents from teachers, monthly calendars so students can keep up with assignments, activities, etc. The first planner is free; however, there is $4 charge for a replacement if the planner is lost.

ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS
In order to enroll at Northport, parents must first go the District Office located on Okeechobee Road in Ft. Pierce to be assigned to a school. Proof of address must be presents at this time. When going to the school for enrollment, you must provide proof of address, birth certificate, social security number, shot record, Florida physical. Grades/Achievement Test Scores also must be provided to the school to enable Guidance Counselors to place the student in the correct classes. Not having the previous school’s
grades may cause a delay in placing the student in the appropriate classes. If your student is in any special education class, you must provide Northport with an IEP so the student can be appropriately placed.

At Northport, the focus is on “Charting The Course For The Future”. The mission of the St. Lucie County School District is to ensure all students  graduate from safe and caring schools equipped with knowledge, skills and  the desire to succeed. We encourage you to call and arrange a tour of Northport K-8 School with the Principal or the Assistant Principal.  You will find well-trained teachers focused on teaching and students focused on learning.
