MOA is a model for partnering a marine research institute with public schools for the improvement of scientific literacy students within our community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"cvGsUA direction-ltr align-start para-style-title\"><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Students in the MOA programs have access to rigorous curriculum across all subject areas with an enhanced focus on marine science and oceanography connected to the Indian River Lagoon.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"cvGsUA direction-ltr align-start para-style-title\"><strong><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Q: Why the name MOA Discovery?<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"cvGsUA direction-ltr align-start para-style-title\"><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">The program at FK Sweet will be called <\/span><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">MOA Discovery<\/span><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\"> because it will be students\u2019 first introduction to the program. <\/span><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">The MOA Discovery program at FK Sweet will provide an elementary pathway to the MOA Prep program at <\/span><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Forest Grove Middle school,<\/span><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\"> and the MOA Program at <\/span><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Fort Pierce Westwood Academy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Enhanced Science Curriculum at FKS<\/span><\/h1>\n<p><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Each grade level will focus on different aspects marine and ocean life, with a focus on the Indian River ecosystem, from understanding local species to learning about habitat preservation as well as education on best practices to reduce known contaminants. Students will learn about sources of pollution and how they can help to protect and improve water quality. The Everglades, Sea Turtles, Manatees, Manta Rays, Humpback Whales<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Fourth Grade<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\"><strong>&#8211;<\/strong> The Everglades, Marine Marvels \u00ae, Right Whales, Seining in the Indian River Lagoon, collaboration with Forest Grove MOA<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Fifth Grade<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\"><strong>&#8211;<\/strong> Lagoon conservation efforts, experiences in the Indian River Lagoon including water quality testing and collaborations with Fort Pierce Westwood MOA Program Ambassadors<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Enhanced Science experiences<\/span><\/h1>\n<p class=\"cvGsUA direction-ltr align-start para-style-title\"><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Students will have the opportunity for enhanced sciences experiences related to the Indian River Lagoon at Frances K Sweet and on off campus field trips.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"cvGsUA direction-ltr align-start para-style-title\"><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Proposed Experiences include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Students help with maintaining a lagoon friendly garden at FK Sweet<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Creation of a MOA Discovery Lab in our STEM building to conduct experiments and enhance hands-ons science learning.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Visits to the St. Lucie Aquarium, Manatee Observation Center, and othe local conservation centers<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Seining in the Indian River Lagoon<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Collaboration with FAU Harbor Branch for visits and experiments<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Combined Science Lab days with MOA student Ambassadors from Fort Pierce Westwood Academy<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Participation at local festivals related to the Indian River Lagoon<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Interacting with the MOA Prep program at Forest Grove Middle School<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Here are a dozen other reasons to choose F.K.
