Five Star School Award<\/h2>\n

There are several components that are required in order to obtain the distinction of a Five Star School.<\/p>\n

Schools must:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0demonstrate a continuous outreach to the community and retain the relationship with them through training and recognition of their efforts.<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0develop and maintain family involvement.\u00a0 We must have an active PTO, provide trainings\/outreach activities as well as show evidence that we communicate with our families in a variety of ways.<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0obtain a total number of volunteer hours that equates to twice the student population as well as providing recognition for our volunteers.<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0provide opportunities for students to participate in community service for our local community (feeding homeless, etc) as well as 50% our students are involved in community activities (food drive, cross-school tutoring)<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0show evidence of a School Advisory Council that meets at least 8 times a year and includes the participation in the development of a portion of the School Improvement Plan.<\/p>\n

Golden School Award<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Golden School Award<\/strong> is given annually by the Florida Department of Education to recognize public schools with exemplary volunteer programs.\u00a0 Thank you to our many volunteers who give so generously of their time and talents to support our students and teachers.<\/p>\n

PBIS BRONZE STATUS<\/h2>\n

PBIS = Positive Behavior Intervention and Support<\/p>\n

PBIS refers to Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support, which encompasses \u201ca range of research-based strategies used to increase quality of life and decrease problem behavior by teaching new skills and making changes in a person’s environment\u201d<\/p>\n

The\u00a0<\/span>Everglades\u00a0<\/span>Champion\u00a0<\/span>Schools\u00a0<\/span>program\u00a0<\/span>empowers\u00a0<\/span>schools\u00a0<\/span>to\u00a0<\/span>integrate\u00a0<\/span>Everglades\u00a0<\/span>conservation\u00a0<\/span>into\u00a0<\/span>their\u00a0<\/span>curriculum\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>culture,\u00a0<\/span>promoting\u00a0<\/span>environmental\u00a0<\/span>education and stewardship<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>among\u00a0<\/span>students.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Everglades Champion Schools program is part of the Everglades Literacy program which aims to enhance environmental education in Florida.\u00a0 This initiative encourages schools to adopt practices that promote awareness and conservation of the Everglades ecosystem.\u00a0 Schools participating in this program engage in various activities, including professional development for teachers, interdisciplinary projects, and community involvement focused on Everglades conservation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
