Counselors will assist all students in acquiring the skills, knowledge, and attitudes needed to become effective students, responsible citizens, productive workers, and lifelong learners. The ultimate goal of the guidance program is for students to graduate with the competencies necessary to make self-directed, realistic and responsible decisions and to be successful contributors to society.<\/p>\n<p>Counseling and guidance services are delivered as part of a team approach that requires professional school counselors who provide direct services to students and who are responsible for overall program direction and content.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Guiding and counseling individual students and groups through the development of academic, personal\/social, and career plans<\/li>\n<li>Counseling small groups and individuals in need<\/li>\n<li>Organizing and leading large group guidance units, session, and activities to assist teachers with student academic, personal\/social, and career needs<\/li>\n<li>Referring students to appropriate community agencies for special services in consultation with their parents<\/li>\n<li>Coordinating the administration of state and local assessments and testing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The school counselor will work cooperatively and collaboratively with administrators, teachers, and district staff to follow the St. Lucie county K-12 Comprehensive Developmental Guidance Program.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"page-splits\" \/>\n<p><strong>Ms. Gabrielle Cave, HS Guidance Counselor<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; tab_id=&#8221;financialaid&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2>Financial Aid Information<\/h2>\n<p>Financial Aid is money to help pay for college or career school.\u00a0 There are four main ways to look for money to help pay for your post-secondary education:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Federal Aid<\/li>\n<li>State Aid<\/li>\n<li>Institutional Aid (from the college or career school)<\/li>\n<li>Scholarships<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<h2>Federal Aid<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Submitting the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is the only way to get federal aid, including the Pell grants, work-study programs, and federal student loans.\u00a0 You also often need to file the FAFSA to qualify for state and institutional aid, such as scholarships.<\/p>\n<p>The FAFSA is a free application and only takes about 30 minutes to complete!<\/p>\n<p>Each year, the FAFSA opens\u00a0October 1st for seniors to complete\u00a0at: <a href=\"https:\/\/fafsa.gov\/\">https:\/\/fafsa.gov\/<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All seniors are to complete the application if they are attending a university, college, technical college, or enlisting in the military.<\/li>\n<li>If you are planning on starting in the summer you will also complete the FAFSA application<\/li>\n<li>All seniors need to complete the FAFSA during the fall of their senior year.<\/li>\n<li>Some colleges have priority FAFSA deadlines-Submit your FAFSA in October to try and earn the most money possible for college! (first come, first serve)<\/li>\n<li>Many colleges will not consider you for merit aid unless you complete the FAFSA! Apply even if you don\u2019t think you will qualify!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>\n<h2>State Aid<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The FFAA (Florida Financial Aid Application) is a free application that could help seniors qualify for state grants and scholarships and also includes the Bright Futures Scholarship.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.floridastudentfinancialaidsg.org\">https:\/\/www.floridastudentfinancialaidsg.org<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Seniors will submit the application in the fall but have until graduation to meet all requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>\n<h2>Institutional Aid<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Institutional aid, unlike federal or state aid, is money from your college or university.\u00a0 It is often available to incoming students (seniors) as well as current students at the college.<\/p>\n<p>The first step to applying for institutional aid is completing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.collegeraptor.com\/paying-for-college\/articles\/financial-aid\/financial-aid-101-how-to-complete-the-fafsa\/\">FAFSA, or Free Application for Federal Student Aid<\/a>.\u00a0 Many colleges and universities use this form to determine what need-based aid, grants, loans, or scholarships they may offer a student.<\/p>\n<p>Check the financial aid websites of the colleges\/universities you are applying to for information regarding priority deadlines and additional scholarship applications.<\/p>\n<p>For example:<\/p>\n<p>IRSC Financial Aid Website:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/irsc.edu\/financial-aid\/index.html\">https:\/\/irsc.edu\/financial-aid\/index.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p>IRSC Foundation Website:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.irscfoundation.org\/p\/4\/#.YUCv0Z1KiUk\">https:\/\/www.irscfoundation.org\/p\/4\/#.YUCv0Z1KiUk<\/a><\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>\n<h2>Scholarships<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>All grade levels can search and apply for scholarships! Some allow you to opt out.
