Each Friday we are introducing one of our outstanding Osprey faculty/staff members. This week we are pleased to introduce Mrs. Cox, an 8th grade reading teacher.
Who was your favorite teacher?
Answer: Mrs. Quillen, my high school Spanish teacher. I loved her enthusiasm, and the will to teach she brought to the classroom every day! Sometimes, she would tell us stories about her family so we (as students) could see that she was a “real” person outside of school.
Can you play any instruments?
Answer: Yes. I played the piano and the saxophone in school.
What are three things still left on your bucket list?
Answer:
- I would love to take a cruise to Hawaii and to Alaska.
- I want to be lowered into a “safe tank” where I can see sharks, up close!
- I want to go hang gliding.
What are your 5 favorite foods?
Answer: My 5 favorite foods are ice cream, tacos, pizza, peanut butter snickers bars, and strawberry cheesecake.
Before working at Oak Hammock, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
Answer: I worked as a hostess in a nursing home and absolutely loved it! I got to meet people from all walks of life. I had the pleasure of listening to stories of how people grew up, what their families were like, their personal struggles and triumphs, and secrets that many will take to their grave. During this time, I also became very involved with residents, and their families, who have Alzheimer’s. In a nursing home environment, on a “good day,” they are some of the kindest, sweetest, honest, most caring people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.
What do you like most about Oak Hammock?
Answer: From the moment I stepped on campus, I felt like I was home. I love the people I work with, seeing friendly familiar faces year after year, and the collaboration put forth by teachers to make our students be successful.
What is your proudest moment at Oak Hammock?
Answer: I have 2. The first one is bringing home 2 volleyball championship trophies my 3rd year coaching. And the second is, since becoming an 8th grade teacher I have had the honor of handing out promotional certificates to students going to high school.
What were you like in school?
Answer: I was a very involved student. I was an all-around athlete, loved music, was the yearbook editor, and participated in student council. I went to a relatively small school and loved being there, hence I spent most of my every day at school. I enjoyed the classes I took, the teachers and coaches I had and most of all, the abundant of lifetime friends I still have.
Do you have a favorite quote?
Answer: I have 2:
“We all read for a reason, and any reason is a good reason!” ~Ms. Cox
“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you’ve imagined. As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler.” ~Henry David Thoreau
Where is your hometown?
Answer: Strasburg, Ohio
