Each Friday we are introducing one of our outstanding Osprey faculty/staff members.This week we are pleased to introduce Mrs. Marcial, an 8th Grade Science Teacher — and this year’s Distinguished Minority Educator.
Who is your role model, and why?
Answer: My mother has been my role model my entire life. She is an amazing and inspiring woman who always believed in me and pushed me to be better and always give the best of me.
What things do you not like to do?
Answer: I love reading and writing, spending time with my family and going to the beach.
Tell me about a project or accomplishment that you consider to be the most significant in your career.
Answer: This year I have the privilege to represent Oak Hammock as Distinguished Minority teacher of the year
What’s your superpower?
Answer: My willingness to help others
What’s your spirit animal?
Answer: The wolf
What are you reading right now?
Answer: Hopeless
Who was your favorite teacher?
Answer: Ms. Rivera, my Chemistry teacher in high school
Why did you become a teacher?
Answer: I had a passion for Science instilled by my late father, along the way in my college career, I met some teachers that inspired me to become an educator
Can you play any instruments?
Answer: Sadly, no
What are your goals?
Answer: Become a better person in all aspects in my life and pursue leadership in the future
What is the strangest talent you have?
Answer: I can switch languages (English to Spanish or vice versa) instantly while in a conversation
What are three things still left on your bucket list?
Answer: Travel around the world, Publish a book, Visit Mauna Kea Observatory
Tell us about your family.
Answer: Most of my family lives in Puerto Rico. I live with my loving husband and wonderful 16 year daughter in Port St Lucie
Do you have any pets?
Answer: Yes, a beautiful Chihuahua
What is the favorite part of your day?
Answer: The evening, where I can spend quality time with my loved ones
If you could choose your age forever, what age would you choose and why?
Answer: I would like to stay my current age, because in this part of my life I have been able to figure out many things in life and become successful in many areas.
If you could meet any historical figure, who would you choose and why?
Answer: Galileo Galilei, I admired how he transformed how the world was seen and never gave up no matter what.
What are your 5 favorite foods?
Answer: Pizza, anything chocolate, watermelon, tacos, wings
Before working at Oak Hammock, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
Answer: I worked as a year round Science teacher at the Juvenile Detention Center in Fort Pierce for two and a half years
If you could switch your job with anyone else within Oak Hammock, whose job would you want?
Answer: I wouldn’t change my job for the world! I love my position!
What are three words to describe Oak Hammock?
Answer: Excellence, Family, Fun
What do you like most about Oak Hammock?
Answer: I love that you feel like you are part of a family.
What is your proudest moment at Oak Hammock?
Answer: When my student at the time succeeded in Science Fair at a district level
What were you like in school?
Answer: I was very shy, and was always very focused on my studies and goals
Do you have a favorite quote?
Answer: “I am not a teacher but an awakener of dreams” – Robert Frost
What are three words that best describe you?
Answer: Helpful, kind, funny
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Answer: Read, go to the movies, enjoy the beach and spend quality time with my family
What is your favorite sport/team?
Answer: Volleyball
Where is your hometown?
Answer: I was born in Humacao, Puerto Rico, a little town in the east coast of the Island
Where is the best place you’ve traveled to and why?
Answer: Disney World! It is my favorite place on Earth!
You’re happiest when?
Answer: I am with my family and close friends
