{"id":5449,"date":"2018-06-28T15:00:42","date_gmt":"2018-06-28T15:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/schools.stlucie.k12.fl.us\/phs\/?page_id=5449"},"modified":"2019-05-20T12:28:43","modified_gmt":"2019-05-20T16:28:43","slug":"requirements-diploma","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/schools.stlucie.k12.fl.us\/phs\/requirements-diploma\/","title":{"rendered":"Requirements to Earn a High School Diploma"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<strong>For additional questions, please contact your student&#8217;s high school counselor or visit the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fldoe.org\/core\/fileparse.php\/7764\/urlt\/1415fowardflyer.pdf\"> Florida Department of Education website.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Students must successfully complete <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">one<\/span> of the following diploma options:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>24-credit option<em> &#8211; <strong>details listed below<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<li>18-credit Academically Challenging Curriculum to Enhance Learning (ACCEL) option<\/li>\n<li>International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma curriculum<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>24-credit High School Diploma<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h4><strong>4 credits in English Language Arts (ELA)<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>English 1, 2, 3, 4<\/li>\n<li>English Honors, IB, AICE, AP, Pre-IB, and dual enrollment courses may satisfy this requirement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>4 credits in Math<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>One of which must be Algebra 1* and one of which must be Geometry*<\/li>\n<li>Industry certifications that lead to college credit may substitute for up to two mathematics credits (except for Algebra 1 and Geometry).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>3 credits in Science<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>One of which must be Biology I*, two of which must be equally rigorous science courses.<\/li>\n<li>Two of the three required credits must have a laboratory component <em>(Biology I counts as a laboratory component course).<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>3 credits in Social Studies<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>1 credit in World History<\/li>\n<li>1 credit in U.S. History*<\/li>\n<li>5 credits in U.S. Government<\/li>\n<li>5 credits in Economics with Financial Literacy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>1<\/strong> <strong>credit Fine &amp; Performing or Practical Arts<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><em>PSLHS offers the following courses to satisfy this requirement<\/em>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All art, music, band, dance, theater, and chorus courses<\/li>\n<li>Culinary 2 (Must complete both Culinary Arts 1 AND 2)<\/li>\n<li>Debate I<\/li>\n<li>Technical Design 1 (Drafting)<\/li>\n<li>Digital Information Technology<\/li>\n<li>Digital Design (Yearbook)<\/li>\n<li>TV Production 1<\/li>\n<li>2 years of JROTC (waiver)<\/li>\n<li>Carpentry 2 (Must complete both Carpentry 1 AND 2)<\/li>\n<li>Marketing Essentials<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>1 credit HOPE<\/strong><\/h4>\n<h4><strong>8 elective credits<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>1 online course within 24 credits <\/strong><em>(<\/em><em>Most students achieve this through their Economics with Financial Literacy course in 12<sup>th<\/sup> grade.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Students must meet the state assessment requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Grade 10 English Language Arts<\/li>\n<li>Algebra I*<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Students must earn a minimum 2.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>*Students must participate in the EOC assessments. <\/em><\/strong><em>(<\/em>The results constitute 30 percent of the final course grade.
