{"id":1620,"date":"2022-04-23T10:09:48","date_gmt":"2022-04-23T14:09:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/schools.stlucie.k12.fl.us\/ree\/?page_id=1620"},"modified":"2025-06-16T14:21:45","modified_gmt":"2025-06-16T18:21:45","slug":"safety-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/schools.stlucie.k12.fl.us\/ree\/safety-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Safety"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stlucie.k12.fl.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/school-safety-4-600x338.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12\">\n<div class=\"vc_column-inner\">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"dt-fancy-separator h2-size\">\n<h1 class=\"dt-fancy-title\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Safety Tips<\/span><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"vc_empty_space\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Sending your child to school every day should not be a worrisome experience.\u00a0 Every member of the St. Lucie Public Schools Safety and Security Department takes our responsibility of the care and keeping of our more than 49,000 students and more than 5000 teachers, staff, and volunteers very seriously.\u00a0 To do that, we need the help of every student, every parent, every teacher, staff, and administrator to be our eyes and ears on and around our campuses.\u00a0 The following are a few tips to assist us in fulfilling St. Lucie Public Schools mission \u2026\u00a0 <i><b>\u201cto ensure all students graduate from safe and caring schools, equipped with the knowledge, skills, and desire to succeed.\u201d<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"vc_empty_space\"><div class=\"gap\" style=\"line-height: 10px; height: 10px;\"><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-6\">\n<div class=\"vc_column-inner\">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"smile_icon_list_wrap ult_info_list_container ult-adjust-bottom-margin \">\n<ul class=\"smile_icon_list left square with_bg\">\n<li class=\"icon_list_item\">\n<div class=\"icon_list_icon\" data-animation=\"\" data-animation-delay=\"03\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Be Patient- <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\">The first few weeks of the school year can be trying for everyone.\u00a0 Leave early and pack patience.\u00a0 Please take the time to review your student\u2019s school\u2019s drop-off and pick-up procedures (ESPECIALLY, if there is construction or other challenges in the area of the school) before the first day of school.\u00a0 Be mindful and help us be good neighbors in the campus community by being respectful of lawns, private properties, area businesses, NOT BLOCKING DRIVEWAYS and following the pick-up and drop-off plan for the school.\u00a0 Once everyone gets a chance to learn the flow, it WILL get better.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"icon_list_connector animated fadeInUp delay-03\" data-animation=\"fadeInUp\" data-animation-delay=\"03\"><div class=\"gap\" style=\"line-height: 10px; height: 10px;\"><\/div><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"icon_list_item\">\n<div class=\"icon_list_icon\" data-animation=\"\" data-animation-delay=\"03\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Learn your child&#8217;s school&#8217;s emergency procedures- <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\">Emergency plans and phone numbers are located in the SLPS Students Code of Conduct, on the school\u2019s webpage, and posted in classrooms. Taking a few extra minutes to familiarize yourself and your child with emergency information can give them the confidence they need to act quickly in emergency situations.\u00a0 Know the procedures for pick-up or reunification after unusual or emergency events.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"x_Apple-converted-space\" style=\"color: #000000\">\u00a0<\/span><strong style=\"color: #000000\">PLEASE WAIT FOR COMMUNICATION FROM THE SCHOOL and\/or SCHOOL DISTRICT<\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u00a0and refrain from rushing to your child\u2019s school.<\/span><\/div>\n<div id=\"Info-list-wrap-5541\" class=\"icon_description\">\n<div class=\"icon_description_text ult-responsive\" data-ultimate-target=\"#Info-list-wrap-5541 .icon_description_text\" data-responsive-json-new=\"{&quot;font-size&quot;:&quot;desktop:13px;&quot;,&quot;line-height&quot;:&quot;desktop:18px;&quot;}\">\n<div><div class=\"gap\" style=\"line-height: 10px; height: 10px;\"><\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_ContentPasted1 x_elementToProof\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">We KNOW you love and care for your children but responding too early to a situation makes it very challenging for emergency and priority responders to get immediate care a resources in place quickly. Waiting for factual information from the School District source is your BEST OPTION for the quickest and least frustrating reunification experience. The School and District take a muti-hazard approach to ensure safe transitions during evacuations and\/or transfers to other safe locations. Know that St. Lucie Public Schools has several restorative plans in place and we practice to be sure you get accurate information and know the status of your child and how to be reunited with them.\u00a0 Some situations may be dictated by local emergency responders taking additional time to safely and strategically relocate students and staff.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_ContentPasted1 x_elementToProof\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">REMEMBER\u2026Our TOP PRIORITY is the safety of our students (your children).\u00a0 The St. Lucie Public Schools enjoys a close partnership with our local emergency response organizations and are a part of the National Incident Management Structure (NIMS) and District leadership has a seat with Unified Command, especially in an emergency situation.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"icon_list_connector animated fadeInUp delay-03\" data-animation=\"fadeInUp\" data-animation-delay=\"03\"><div class=\"gap\" style=\"line-height: 10px; height: 10px;\"><\/div><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"icon_list_item\">\n<div class=\"icon_list_icon\" data-animation=\"\" data-animation-delay=\"03\">\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Talk with your child about safety- <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\">Be specific. Talk about instinct and paying attention to funny feelings or fear. Explain what to do if they don\u2019t feel safe (find a teacher, call<\/span><span class=\"x_Apple-converted-space\" style=\"color: #000000\">\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" style=\"color: #000000\">911<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\">, etc.). Make sure they know how to contact you or a trusted neighbor who is likely to be at home.\u00a0 Check your child\u2019s backpack\/school bags and schoolwork frequently for indications of something out of the ordinary, or a show-and-tell item that poses a threat or danger.\u00a0 And, of course, if you or your child\u00a0<\/span><b style=\"color: #000000\">SEE SOMETHING<\/b><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u00a0or\u00a0<\/span><b style=\"color: #000000\">HEAR SOMETHING<\/b><span style=\"color: #000000\">,\u00a0<\/span><i style=\"color: #000000\">please<\/i><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u00a0<\/span><b style=\"color: #000000\">SAY SOMETHING.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<div class=\"icon_list_icon\" data-animation=\"\" data-animation-delay=\"03\"><div class=\"gap\" style=\"line-height: 10px; height: 10px;\"><\/div><\/div>\n<div id=\"Info-list-wrap-4197\" class=\"icon_description\">\n<div class=\"icon_description_text ult-responsive\" data-ultimate-target=\"#Info-list-wrap-4197 .icon_description_text\" data-responsive-json-new=\"{&quot;font-size&quot;:&quot;desktop:13px;&quot;,&quot;line-height&quot;:&quot;desktop:18px;&quot;}\">\n<div class=\"x_ContentPasted1 x_elementToProof\">\n<div class=\"x_ContentPasted1 x_elementToProof\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><b>***We ALL have a responsibility for your child\u2019s safety and the safety of others on the school campus<\/b><b>.\u00a0 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/getfortifyfl.com\/Tip.html\">FortifyFL<\/a><\/em><\/span>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.p3tips.com\/tipform.aspx?ID=151&amp;CX=830C0B\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><em>Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers<\/em><\/span><\/a>, or school administration are all good options. **<\/b><\/span><\/div>\n<div><div class=\"gap\" style=\"line-height: 10px; height: 10px;\"><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-6\">\n<div class=\"vc_column-inner\">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"smile_icon_list_wrap ult_info_list_container ult-adjust-bottom-margin \">\n<ul class=\"smile_icon_list left square with_bg\">\n<li class=\"icon_list_item\">\n<div class=\"icon_list_icon\" data-animation=\"\" data-animation-delay=\"03\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Know and follow school security and safety measures- <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\">These might include signing in when visiting the school, having photo identification ready to present, being escorted when walking through the building, or wearing a visitor pass. Following these procedures also sets a great example for your kids.\u00a0 Not following these procedures increases anxiety and frustration of all involved, takes additional time, and could result in unpleasant experiences.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"icon_list_connector animated fadeInUp delay-03\" data-animation=\"fadeInUp\" data-animation-delay=\"03\"><div class=\"gap\" style=\"line-height: 10px; height: 10px;\"><\/div><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"icon_list_item\">\n<div class=\"icon_list_icon\" data-animation=\"\" data-animation-delay=\"03\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Know travel routes to and from the school- <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\">Make sure you and your child know both primary and alternate routes. In an emergency, roads can be blocked and it\u2019s important to have a backup plan.\u00a0 Download the \u201cHere Comes The Bus\u201d app to get updates on your child\u2019s bus and route changes.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"icon_list_connector animated fadeInUp delay-03\" data-animation=\"fadeInUp\" data-animation-delay=\"03\"><div class=\"gap\" style=\"line-height: 10px; height: 10px;\"><\/div><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"icon_list_item\">\n<div class=\"icon_list_icon\" data-animation=\"\" data-animation-delay=\"03\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Inform school staff about health and emotional concerns- <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\">Whether your child has a food allergy, a physical disability, or has been subject to bullying, make sure to keep your child\u2019s teachers and principal in the loop.\u00a0 Early and consistent communication is key to your child\u2019s success in school.\u00a0 St. Lucie Public Schools has a multitude of resources and support programs available to aid in your child\u2019s ultimate success in school.\u00a0 Please call Student Services for additional information.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"icon_list_connector animated fadeInUp delay-03\" data-animation=\"fadeInUp\" data-animation-delay=\"03\"><div class=\"gap\" style=\"line-height: 10px; height: 10px;\"><\/div><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"icon_list_item\">\n<p class=\"icon_list_icon\" data-animation-delay=\"03\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Get involved- <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\">Talk with the principal about what you can do to increase school safety, such as organizing parents to form a neighborhood watch before and after school. JOIN your school\u2019s <\/span><b style=\"color: #000000\">School Advisory Committee (SAC).<\/b><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u00a0 Many times, parent groups are highly successful in making improvements in conditions or procedures in schools.\u00a0 Be supportive of your school\u2019s administration and look for opportunities to help.\u00a0 ALL VOLUNTEERS (to include chaperones, assistant coaches, etc.) MUST apply and undergo a background check.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"icon_list_connector animated fadeInUp delay-03\" data-animation=\"fadeInUp\" data-animation-delay=\"03\"><div class=\"gap\" style=\"line-height: 10px; height: 10px;\"><\/div><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"icon_list_item\">\n<p class=\"icon_list_icon\" data-animation-delay=\"03\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\">NO WEAPONS\/FIREARMS- <\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000\">Needless to say, there are numerous restrictions and laws on unauthorized persons having weapons or firearms on a school campus, SLPS District offices\/properties, including school-sponsored or athletic events.\u00a0 Even with the new legislation,\u00a0<\/span><b style=\"color: #000000\">FIREARMS\/WEAPONS ARE NOT PERMITTED ON SCHOOL CAMPUSES, DISTRICT PROPERTIES, OR SCHOOL\/DISTRICT SPONSORED EVENTS REGARLESS OF VENUE (LOCATION).\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><b style=\"color: #000000\">This includes those who may even have a concealed weapons permit.\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"icon_list_icon\" data-animation-delay=\"03\">\n<div id=\"Info-list-wrap-8862\" class=\"icon_description\">\n<div class=\"icon_description_text ult-responsive\" data-ultimate-target=\"#Info-list-wrap-8862 .icon_description_text\" data-responsive-json-new=\"{&quot;font-size&quot;:&quot;desktop:13px;&quot;,&quot;line-height&quot;:&quot;desktop:18px;&quot;}\">\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof x_ContentPasted1\">\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><div class=\"gap\" style=\"line-height: 10px;
