Throughout the year teachers have been reading the book “Engaging Students with Poverty in Mind” by Eric Jensen. The focus of the book study has been to dig deeper into understanding engagement as the key factor in the academic success of students. During the last faculty meeting of the year, teachers and staff participated in the “Amazing Race” challenge.

During this challenge teachers had to work together to go on a journey around school. Participants solved riddles that lead them to secret stations around the school where they were asked questions that reviewed various topics in the book. In the end, teams came together to solve the final riddle and discuss how engagement is an integral part of any lesson.
