Mariposa Elementary’s VPK has been focusing on things they can build. A lot of the answers have been literal and very common for our students: build a tower, build a castle, bridge. Mrs. Claudia Bonilla has tried to move the conversation into topics that are not as obvious such as we can build friendships, stories, etc. The students were able to review the parts of a story, and/or story elements. They reviewed characters, setting, plot, lesson, and then they discussed how they could build their own story by including some of those elements. The students practiced writing a sentence “I can build a story.” They then had to draw and describe who and where. Who were the characters, and where was the setting? Mrs. Bonilla wrote down the description of the student’s stories.
