School Counselor Resources

Eligible students must:

■ have a 9th -12th grade classification

■ provide Enhanced ACT, SAT, or P.E.R.T. scores that are no more than two years old

■ have a minimum 3.0 unweighted high school GPA for college credit courses

■ have earned at least four (4) core high school credits (ex. English, Math, Sci., etc)

1. Consult with your high school counselor to confirm 3.0 unweighted GPA and 4 high school core academic credits.

2. Complete the online IRSC Dual Enrollment Application online. You will upload all forms to their system without our signature. IRSC will notify us to confirm your eligibility.

3. Send your qualifying SAT or ACT scores directly to IRSC from College Board or ACT. If you do not have qualifying SAT/ACT scores, you must sign up to take the PERT at IRSC.

4. Read and review the St Lucie County Dual Enrollment Contract. The contract must be signed by the student and parent then emailed to the high school counselor from the parent’s email address.

Any student beginning Dual Enrollment for the first time is only allowed to take two classes their first semester, one of which has to be Student Success (SLS1011). Students and their parent/guardian are also required to sign a contract written by St Lucie County/IRSC which states that if a student fails or withdraws from a class they are immediately removed from the dual enrollment program until they retake the course at their own expense and receive a passing score. Please make sure your school counselor gives you a contract.

PERT Test FAQs

Is the PERT a timed test?

No. It is not a timed test. It will take most students approximately 2-3 hours to complete all three sections of the PERT.

At what time should I arrive to take the PERT?

Students need to arrive to an IRSC Assessment Center with a paid receipt and a valid photo ID no later than three (3) hours prior to the established closing time. Therefore, students can start the PERT on Monday – Thursday between 8:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. during all semesters and between 8:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. on Fridays in the fall and spring semesters.

What do I need to study for the PERT?

You can find many resources online (especially on IRSC’s website) to help you score high on the PERT.

Can I use a calculator on the PERT for the math section?

There is a calculator built into the PERT testing system. It will automatically “pop up” if the question allows the use of a calculator. However, personal or handheld calculators are not permitted.

How many questions are on the test?

There are 30 questions per test section; 90 questions total. Each section has 25 scored questions and 5 field test questions.

What is the score range for the PERT? 50- 150

What if I didn’t get the PERT score to qualify?

Students are required to wait seven (7) days before retesting on the same PERT sub-test, and students are strongly encouraged to re-mediate before retesting. There is no limit on the number of retest attempts.

I received my scores and I have met all requirements for dual enrollment. What do I do next?

Bring a printed copy of your PERT results to your school counselor. From there, you will be able to register for classes.
