What a marvelous and celebratory morning in the Northport Media Center recently. Students from the 6th and 7th grade Northstar team were privileged to take part in an engaging program honoring the contributions of top-notch women from across so many arenas and avenues of life. Girls from the classes kicked off the program with a Maya Angelou poem, then used the alphabet to lionize many powerful and courageous women from all walks of life and in all areas of history and the present.
Dr. Donna Mills introduced the impressive guest speaker, United States Attorney, Carmen Lineberger. Attorney Lineberger spoke about diversity, courage, setting goals and becoming the best person you can be by challenging yourself. She also spoke about never burning bridges, being respectful, kind , finding a role model and follow their road map and getting the job done. It was a tremendous pleasure to host such an extraordinary woman. Students wrapped up the program with a rousing rendition of Helen Reddy’s incomparable song, “I Am Women” dedicated to Dr. Mills and Attorney Lineberger.
Northport Speaker’s Bureau has been such a moving and high quality roadmap for our students and teachers this year. Many thanks to Dr. Mills and all the high quality guest speakers that have visited Northport during the 2017-18 school year.
