Its purpose is to call the public’s attention to outstanding programs in schools throughout North America. Each participating state and province can choose one winning school a year of outstanding programs in schools throughout North America.

Forest Grove wins 1st place in MLK Parade

Trophies go to MLK parade winners

Trophies were awarded for the winning entries in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemmorative Committee parade on January 21, 2013, in Fort Pierce. First, second and third place, plus winners of special judges’ awards, were presented. Pictured, front row kneeling, are Jerrime Shells of Forest Grove Middle School with its first place trophy for the middle school division , and Principal Todd Smith of Fort Pierce Central High School with the first place trophy for the high school category. Forest Grove team wins middle school science bowl

Twelve teams from six Title One Schools competed against each other in a science bowl competition at Westwood High School’s Marine Oceanographic Academy and FAU-Harbor Branch Oceanographic Center on Saturday, February 16th. The competition was a Jeopardy-style competition were two teams competed against each other in each match. Questions in the subjects of physical science, life science, earth and space science and mathematics were asked. Two types of questions were used including individual toss questions as well as team-answered bonus questions. Teams from Allapattah Flats K-8, Dan McCarty School, Forest Grove Middle School, Ft. Pierce Magnet School of the Arts, Southern Oaks Middle School, Southport Middle School were represented in the competition. Excitement filled the air as the final match between Southport Middle School and Forest Grove Middle School ended in a tie and had to be decided by a five question tie-breaker round. Forest Grove Middle reading leaders rewarded by book store

The following Bulldogs are to be congratulated for being reading leaders this 2012 school year! These students traveled to the Barnes & Noble Bookseller in Jensen Beach. In order to be invited, students either were top Reading Counts point earners for their grade, or participated as a panelist for their grade in the March Battle of the Books event. Students were Christen Bailey, Sydney Rankin, Hannah Catlett, Geneva Deckert, Genesis Gibson, Derrick Davis, Jessica Hoyt, Zach Roach, Alton Mills, Mark Marin, Hikaru Kurasawa, Lyzberthe Chery, Ilee Fagarass, Ashley Dorvilias, Abigail Peterson, Jada Williams, Noah Dale, Fredline Beauge, Kerry Oreo, Kyle Thomas, Bobbi Goff, Ivy Spivey, Erasto Quintana, and Austin Baumann. Forest Grove Culinary Arts students visit IRSC

           Eighth graders in Mrs. Clayman’s Culinary Careers class from Forest Grove Middle School attended a Career Exploration field trip to  Indian River State College, Culinary Institute at the Mueller Campus in Vero Beach. Lisa Lamarre, Academic Coordinator and Chef Deborah Midkiff lead a discussion on Eating Nutritiously by making informed food choices, by being aware of the amount of sugar in foods, reading food labels and consuming appropritate calorie intake. The students participated in adding condiments to a salad which they had to figure the total amount of calories. Malik Thompson was awarded an apron for having the correct amount of calories. The IRSC culinary students prepared and served a healthy lunch of baked chicken nuggets and potatoe wedges. The FGM students were given a guided tour of the commercial kitchen and tallked with the college students about what they were studying, how to be admitted in the program and how they decided to have a career in the culinary field. I am very proud of the students they all were very attentive, polite and enjoyed the field trip. I would like to thank chaperone, Mrs. Caputo a Career and Technology Career Specialist. The Career Exploration field trip is made possible through a School Wide Grant from the  and the St. Lucie Education Foundation.

Forest Grove Middle school students recently spent a week “Shining a Light on Reading” in celebration of literacy.
