Celebrating Noble Virtues with Southport ESOL Students

State Representative Larry Lee Jr., of the Florida House of Representatives, challenged Southport Middle School ESOL students to continue working hard in school. Through his own life story, he explained how anything is possible when you remain determined to achieve your goals and stressed that students should remember that it is easy to make a bad choice but even harder to recover from it. Representative Lee was the keynote speaker for Mr. Hochberg’s 22nd Annual Multicultural Celebration at Southport on Friday, May 18, 2018. The celebration also included former students words of inspiration, as well as presentations involving the seven noble virtues. The students, with the help of their families, prepared and shared a feast of indigenous food from their family’s home country which was enjoyed by all. Over 15 different countries were represented such as Brazil, China, Cuba, Ecuador, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Honduras, Iran, Mexico, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Vietnam, and Venezuela.

Willy Wonka Wows the Crowd

The delicious adventures experienced by Charlie Bucket on his visit to Willy Wonka’s mysterious chocolate factory lit up the stage in Southport Middle School drama students’ performance of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The talent exhibited on stage was inspiring and the immense pride of student success was felt by everyone in the audience. The inclusion of students from Mrs. Dudash’s Exceptional Student Education class, along with other SPM schoolmates, made it a spectacular performance that taught us all: that even in a world which is amid tragedy, anything is possible and students of all abilities, can accomplish amazing things with hard work and dedication, particularly when working together to do so. Congratulations to all on a job well done!
