The School Counseling of F.K. Sweet Magnet Elementary offers many different services for students. Students can receive guidance lessons that are taught at selected grade levels based on teachers’ requests. Goal setting, career awareness, anger management, problem solving, completing assignments, decision making, creative thinking, and peer pressure are examples of lessons that may be taught. In addition, individual counseling based on need and teacher or parent requests, the guidance department may help students deal with a variety problem that a student faces at school or home.
Meeting the social and academic needs of students are the main objectives of the School Counseling Department at F.K. Sweet. The School Counselor facilitates meetings between parents and teachers through the Multi-Tiered Student System. Students’ academic and social progress is addressed through the MTSSS to help parents and teachers work in a cooperative fashion to help students reach their potential. The department is also responsible for handling all referrals for cognitive as well as educational achievement for the Exceptional Student Education program.
The department also recognizes student achievement with Star Student of the Month and Honor Roll helps a student’s self-worth.
