Ms. Jacob’s fifth-grade science students are currently delving into the fascinating world of Earth and Space. Through collaborative learning activities, they have explored how gravity and energy shape the formation of galaxies, including the Milky Way, stars, the Solar System, and Earth. Utilizing various materials, the students created a model of a galaxy, which enhanced their comprehension of its components, such as gas, dust, and numerous stars along with their orbiting objects. This hands-on experience has kept the students actively engaged while they identified and understood the essential elements within a galaxy.
Science inquiry is an intricate and dynamic process. Mrs. Coombs’ fifth-grade class recently conducted an engaging science experiment where they worked collaboratively to determine which brand of paper towel is the most absorbent. Under the teacher’s guidance, the students systematically identified the problem, made thoughtful predictions, conducted the experiment, gathered and analyzed data, and defended their conclusions. This hands-on experience not only challenged the students but also deeply engaged them, providing a vivid understanding of the scientific method and the practices involved in scientific inquiry.
