Northport K-5 students took a break from learning to engage in a little Fall fun. The event, hosted by Student Council, was filled with carnival-style games, prizes, popcorn and snow cones.
“This was Student Councils first big event,” said Mrs. Angela Elliott, Student Council Coordinator. “The students were so excited to get out of the classroom and take a much deserved break, while Student Council members got a glimpse into what the rest of the year holds, from fundraising to volunteering.”
The biggest hurdle for the team was ensuring everyone was safe, so the group created a schedule that put grade levels in rotations with their classmates and peers. They then walked around in groups of four or less and moved clockwise through about 15 games. They had activities such as the Frankenstein Booger Picker, Find the Finger in a Haystack, Monster Mash races and more.
“We are really proud of Student Council for keeping the flow of students on track and making it a day for them to remember,” said Elliott.
Teachers also donated candy and other staff members contributed by donating supplies, and designing and painting the games.
Overall the event was a success with the help from many volunteers, staff support and Mrs. Hansard, the PTO President.
“We had so much positive feedback,” said Mr. Curl, who also helped with the vision and execution of the event. “They were talking about it for days. It was certainly worth the effort and time to bring a little bit of joy to them.”
The team is hoping to make this an annual event that will grow larger each year. Can’t wait to see what they do next!
