Mrs. Elizabeth Butterworth was recognized as the Northport K-8 Teacher of the Year for 2022-2023. Her career in St. Lucie County began flourishing for almost two decades. For eight of those years, she has been employed at Northport. She has taught everything from kindergarten through eighth-grade math.
Butterworth is currently the school’s graduation coach. However, sometimes her role isn’t clear among staff members due to her widespread knowledge of all things education and the irreplicable relationships she develops with students of all ages.
Butterworth explains that this is could be because it’s in her nature to pick up anything and everything to support the team and help our students. You can often find her running all over campus to support a classroom, staff member or individual students.
“I am passionate about our students’ success and will continue to support our NPK family in every way that I can,” said Butterworth. “I enjoy getting to know you all and building relationships with our students and their families. We build on each other’s strengths and fill the gaps in our weaknesses.”
Outside of school, she is a law enforcement wife and mother of two children. She spends most of her free time watching her son play sports and her daughter performing in dance recitals and plays. She also frequently volunteers at her church.
“[Northport staff is] the best and most amazing group of people I know,” said Butterworth. “We have been through many challenges and continue to work through them daily; I truly believe that together we are better.”
Butterworth will compete at the district level in February 2023.
“Mrs. Butterworth is an excellent representation of the fantastic teachers and staff we have at Northport,” said Mr. Glenn Rustay, Northport K-8 principal. ” Thank you, Mrs. Butterworth, for all you do for our teachers, staff, and students!”
