The Parent Teacher Organization at Northport addresses issues that are important to parents and public school teachers and administrators alike through fundraising and activities. Getting involved is easy and free. Come join our growing team!

I am going into my third term this upcoming school year, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. It has allowed me to be a larger part of my daughter’s school life. This opportunity has given me an inside look as to the dedication and commitment the staff and teachers have for the students. I love that the teachers know me personally and by name. I love that many of the students know me too! Being this involved makes me feel like I am making a positive difference in many more lives than just my own daughter’s life. I love volunteering! Giving back makes me happy!

FAQs

Who is eligible to join the PTO?

You don’t have to be a parent to get involved in the PTO! Aunts, uncles, grandparents or even an adult sibling of a NPK8 student are also eligible.

Teachers and staff are also encouraged to be a part of the PTO.

How much does it cost to join the PTO?

There is no cost to join the PTO.

How often are the meetings?

Usually we have meetings once a month, but this year with the COVID restrictions we may have to remain on Zoom meetings. We are hoping to be able to meet in person though.

What obligations do I have if I join?

No requirements… Only requests to help with fundraisers, attend meetings, and help with our teacher appreciation luncheons and holiday celebrations.

What type of events will I be involved with?

Fundraising is BIG for PTO. We brainstorm for new and exciting ways to raise money within the first couple meetings then we concentrate on how and when to implement them. Most of the funds (after expenses) are used for the food for staff monthly meetings/breakfasts as well as gifts for holidays and teacher appreciation.

We have three (3) main fundraisers: our Fall Dance (VPK-5), Breakfast with Santa (schoolwide, but mostly VPK-5) and the Holiday Gift Shop (schoolwide, and one week long). We also have Big Apple Pizza and other smaller fundraisers.

We always joined forces with our NPK8 Relay for Life Team for the Valentine’s Dance fundraiser. Of course, COVID-19 interfered last year, and the teacher who started Relay at NPK8 is no longer at NPK8 so I need a new captain or at least a co-captain with me.

What if I want to do more, are there other open PTO positions?

Currently all positions are open with the exception of President. This is will be updated periodically until those positions are filled.
