Each Friday we are introducing one of our outstanding Osprey faculty/staff members. This week we are pleased to introduce Ms. Seaton, an 8th Grade Science Teacher.
Who is your role model, and why?
Answer: My mother is my role model. She is a retried science teacher and writer. Her loving gentle spirit and character shine through everything she does. Above all though her faith imbues all she does and is.
Tell me about a project or accomplishment that you consider to be the most significant in your career.
Answer: There are several career accomplishments I hold dear; getting my MA in secondary science education and Ed. Specialist degree in Educational Leadership. I was selected to pilot and represent the Brooklyn School district 18 in New York for SEPUP (a science laboratory kit program used in many schools) at University of Berkley. Several other great moments include; being cited for contributions in science journal articles while I was a research technician, being one of St Lucie County’s cohort to write lessons for CPALMS and finally publishing my poetry on Amazon.com.
What’s your superpower?
Answer: I don’t possess a superpower. My strength is my Faith in God.
What are you reading right now?
Answer: Currently I am reading ‘Wonder,’ ‘The Chemist’ by Stefanie Meyer and my own poetry and novels.
Who was your favorite teacher?
Answer: My favorite teachers were my high school Biology teacher and my English Teacher Mr. Brand.
Why did you become a teacher?
Answer: Funny, because I came from a family of teachers I said I would never teach, not because I thought it was a poor thing to do but because I thought I would write or go into a medical research career. Teaching chose me and it has allowed me to use my other experiences to enrich my lessons. I am passionate that students not only learn, but experience wonder and challenge themselves as they do so.
What are your goals?
Answer: I have many career and personal goals. The first is to become a well-known author. I would like to travel around the world and lastly, I would like to mentor and impact other teachers from a leadership position (Assistant Principal, University Teaching Program for Science Educators). Personally, I would like to adopt children.
What is the strangest talent you have?
Answer: I am not sure I have a strange talent – regular and unusual things I have done… play the Piano, sing in and direct choirs, make Pottery, Ball Room Dance and Fence. The most unusual place I have been to is Morocco.
What are three things still left on your bucket list?
Answer: (1) Take a motorcycle ride; (2) ride a horse; (3) take a hot air balloon ride; (4) travel to all the places on my travel list
What is your proudest moment at Oak Hammock?
Answer: My best Oak Hammock moment was being nominated by my peers for Distinguished Minority Teacher of the year for Oak Hammock in 2015.
Check back next week when we introduce you to another Outstanding Osprey Educator!
