Admission Process

  • Student meets with high school counselor or grad coach to verify eligibility of enrollment. They will then submit an application which includes academic, attendance and discipline history and test results
  • The application will be reviewed, and parent/guardian will be contacted to complete enrollment

At PBPA, our primary goal is to help every student earn a high school diploma and graduate ready for their next chapter in life.

We encourage students to remain actively engaged in their coursework, participate in academic support opportunities, and make consistent progress toward graduation requirements. Students are encouraged to earn two or more credits each quarter, allowing them to complete eight or more credits during the school year and stay on track toward earning a diploma.

Graduation is more than completing credits. It is about preparing students for success beyond high school through opportunities that support college readiness, career exploration, workforce preparation, and lifelong learning.

The chart above is designed to help monitor progress toward graduation requirements. It outlines the courses and assessments that should be completed at each grade level to remain on track for earning a high school diploma including a total of 2.5 credits in General Electives Courses.

In addition to earning all required credits and passing the state ELA and Mathematics assessments, students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0. To stay on track for graduation, students should strive to earn at least a C in all courses. However, higher grades can lead to additional opportunities, including scholarships, college admissions, and participation in dual enrollment programs.

For example, students may be eligible to earn college credits through Dual Enrollment beginning the summer after 10th grade if they maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher and meet all other college admission requirements. Please refer to the Dual Enrollment section for additional information.

At PBPA, students are not restricted by a traditional semester schedule like those used at many comprehensive high schools. This allows students to progress through coursework at their own pace, accelerate credit completion, and potentially graduate early.

šŸŽ“ College Opportunities: Dual Enrollment

The Dual Enrollment Program is offered through a partnership with Indian River State College and have a cooperative agreement whereby eligible high school students may enroll in certain college courses. Credits earned may be applied for both high school and college purposes. Performance Based Diploma Program students take approved courses through this program and attend high school and college simultaneously.

Dual enrollment courses are vocational courses in which the student can receive high school and college credit if the student earns a grade of ā€œCā€ or better. A three-credit college course is equivalent to .5 high school credit. Students must be aware that dual enrollment coursework is college level work, and the student is expected to be motivated, self-directed, and adept at time management.

Registration Procedures:

  • Student meets with high school counselor to verify eligibility for enrollment in a dual enrollment course.
  • Student and counselor select appropriate course(s) for enrollment.
  • Student completes a dual enrollment application from the college and has it signed by his/her parent and high school principal/designee.
  • To drop, add, or withdraw from a dual enrollment class, the student must meet with high school counselor.
  • Upon withdrawal from or completion of the course, the student must return all dual enrollment books.
