Our goal at St. Lucie West K-8 School is to continue to provide excellent teaching and learning experiences for students.
Located in Port St. Lucie, we offer high standard academic courses with a strong emphasis placed on reading, writing and technology. Each classroom is equipped with student computer workstations and supervised Internet access. A variety of academic and elective courses are available to enable students to make good, sound choices about their future, and to instill in them the desire for lifelong learning.
The Student Council is sponsoring their annual Food for Families Food Drive from November 1st to 15th. Last year, we collected 2,000 pounds in non-perishable items. Cheryl and Ray Lalloo from the Jessica Clinton Foundation generously donated an AED unit to St. Lucie West K-8. A fundraising campaign with heart-shaped cookies from local Panera restaurants takes place each February, and students are encouraged to post pictures of themselves holding the heart-shaped cookies. The SLWK-8 School Speech/Language Pathologist, Nikki O’Neill and ESE Specialist, Marisol Abrahante were recognized at a recent School Board meeting for outstanding service as part of the District’s STAR program. Kindergarten and Second grade teamed up to have students kick-off Dr. Seuss Week. Each kindergarten student was paired with a second grader and the “Reading Buddies” were able to share in reading a few of Dr. Seuss’ children stories.
Each week Ms. Capozzi’s 1st graders practice their reading fluency with a story on their Journeys book. At the end of the week the students can read it by themselves on Flashlight Friday!
St. Lucie Public Schools obtained a Math/Science Partnership (MSP) grant focused on increasing science content knowledge. This grant provided twenty-five teachers with the opportunity to participate in the U-Futures program.
