Dozens of Lincoln Park Academy students, both alumni and current students, were part of the more than 100 runners and volunteers who came out to support and run in the 12th Annual Run for the Coach 5K, which took place Jan. 20, 2018 beginning at the RiverWalk Center in Fort Pierce. The 3.1 mile course, through downtown Fort Pierce area and across the South Beach Bridge, is run every year, in memory of former Lincoln Park Academy teacher and coach Wayne Cross, who passed away in 2006, and in honor of teachers and coaches everywhere. Many St. Lucie Schools current cross country and track athletes competed in the race, including Lincoln Park Academy standout runner Sara Aube, who finished first place for the women. Port St. Lucie High alumnus Josh Negron finished first for the men and Coach Veryl Moore was first coach finisher. The race is planned and directed every year by LPA teacher and coach Sue-Ellen Sanders and the Cross Family. Thanks to this year’s sponsors, Orchid Island Juice Company and The Andrew Schmeer Foundation.
