- Sign up for SAT and ACT.
- ASVAB will be Sept 6,2023 on PSLHS campus at 7:30am in the media center. Register for the ASVAB using this link by August 31st.
- If you are interested in military, contact recruiter for specific branch. Explore and visit military.com for more information.
- If you took the school day SAT last year and were on free/reduced lunch, your 2 free SAT waivers are already loaded on your college board account to retake the SAT. Email your assigned school counselor if you are new and/or do not have a fee waiver in your account. You must be qualified for free/reduced lunch to receive a waiver.
- Attend the St. Lucie County College Fair on September 21, 2023 at the Havert Fenn Center in Ft. Pierce from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Over 50 colleges will be in attendance answer questions about admissions, financial aid, and scholarships.
- FAFSA is being revamped, tentative release is December. All seniors need to complete the FAFSA. Stay tuned for more information.
- Research application deadlines and plan to finish early just in case there is an issue. Check university admissions website for their specific information and assistance. Most priority college application deadlines including financial aid is November 1st.
- All high school students should apply as “First Time in College Applicants” even if you are in dual enrollment.
- Are you undecided? Check out mynextmove.org to take a career interest inventory, explore careers, and apprenticeships.
- Undecided? Take advantage of the Online Career Coach at IRSC. Take assessments, find career and explore educational programs at IRSC to meet your goals.
- Going to IRSC for a career or degree program? Make an appointment with an IRSC Success Coach for individualized help with admissions steps for your specific program of interest. Scroll to bottom of the page for the Success Coach List
- Make sure all community service or work hours are turned into JAG services monthly to meet BF requirements. This is not a graduation requirement.
- Complete SLPS Free/Reduced Online Meal Application to see if you qualify for 2 SAT/ACT fee waivers.
- Use Florida Shines to research careers, find jobs, apply for scholarships, investigate college majors, build a resume, career interest inventories.
- Complete your college application and continue to apply to scholarships.
- Report your college acceptances and scholarship winnings to Ms. Scherden in 941B.
- Most of the Florida Universities do not need a letter of recommendation. If you do need a letter from the school counselor, please email your assigned school counselor a completed “Student Brag Sheet for School Counselor Recommendation Form” at least 2 weeks prior to the due date.
Middle of Fall to Winter Break
- Check graduation requirements via Skyward and GPA.
- Make sure to check college application status and beat deadlines.
- Apply for State for Florida Financial Aid 10/1. One application for Bright Futures and other State of Florida Scholarships.
- Continue to check school email. The St. Lucie Education Foundation Scholarships will be released soon.
- Finish your senior year strong, admissions can be rescinded.
Spring
- Continue to apply for scholarships.
- Check Bright Futures requirements, if you meet the GPA and classes requirement but not the test score requirements, sign up for the next SAT/ACT.
- Students entering the military need to finalize plans and sign papers with the military recruiter.
- Students attending college need to select the post-secondary institution they will be attending and request final transcript via TBA. You need to follow up by contacting their office of admissions, financial aid, etc. Make sure to meet their deadlines.
