Freshmen FAQ's
Question:
When can I start Dual Enrollment?
Answer:
Must have 4 completed credits, a 3.0 unweighted GPA, and a passing PERT scores.
Question:
How can a student make up credits for classes he or she failed or received a grade of D?
Answer:
Credits can be recovered by attending FLVS, a credit lab, or IRSC adult high school. Transportation must be provided and student is responsible for the cost of books & material). Contact your assigned guidance counselor for more information.
Question:
How many volunteer hours are required for graduation?
Answer:
Volunteer hours are not a high school graduation requirement. However, requirements for various University/Scholarships differ.
Question:
How do I earn credits and how many are needed to graduate?
Answer:
Each semester class is worth .5 credits. You are required to take 7 classes per semester. If you pass all of your classes, you will earn 3.5 credits each semester, 7.0 credits per year, and 28 credits over your four years of high school.
A total of 24 credits (4 English, 4 Math, 3 Science, 3 Social Studies, 1 HOPE, 1 Performing Art, 8 electives) are required for graduation.
Question:
How do I change my schedule if I don’t like the classes I have?
Answer:
Changes to schedules are granted on a limited basis and can only occur through your guidance counselor. During the first week of school a “Schedule Change” form can be picked up from your SLC office (before school, during lunch, or after school ONLY). Forms can be submitted to your guidance counselor for consideration but will only be approved based on seat availability. Finally, it is quite common for students NOT to get their first choice in some subjects. It is therefore extremely important that an alternative choice is picked when initially selecting classes.

When will I get my actual class schedule?
Answer:
Schedules will be available during open house just prior to the start of the school and will also be available on skyward (hyperlink)
Question:
Do I have to take a world language?
Answer:
No. World language is not a high school graduation requirement. However, two to three years of instruction in one world language is required for admission to most four year colleges and is also needed for many scholarships. Please contact your guidance counselor for details.
Question:
What do I do when my child is struggling in their high school course class?
Answer:
- Contact the teacher directly (preferably via email)
- Have student attend tutor help sessions
- Contact guidance counselor to schedule a Parent Teacher Conference (PTC)

Junior FAQ's
Question: When are can we order class rings?
Answer: Class Rings are ordered via Herff Jones in October after a grade wide presentation.
Question: When is the Junior Class trip?
Answer: The Junior Class Trip is normally HOWL-O-Scream and it occurs in October. Price is set by the Junior Sponsor after ticket information is received. Transportation and park admission are included in the price
Question: When can we pay for and get our assigned parking space?
Answer: Parking – the first two weeks of school is open parking. Seniors have the first week to purchase and then Juniors start the second week. You must have a parking permit by the end of the second week. ALL DUAL ENROLLMENT will purchase them with their grade level.
Question: When and where can I pick up my school ID?
Answer: Photo ID’s are available approximately one month after school pictures are taken. These must be picked up in the Junior SLC Office by the students.
Question: When can I register for the ACT and SAT and where can I find my scores?
Answer: CT and SAT test dates and registration information in available from the first day of school in the Junior and Senior SLC Offices. Scores can be found online with your initial login information.
